One of the greatest joys of being a wedding planner in Cape Town is that no two weddings are ever the same. Every couple I work with brings their own story, passions, and personalities—and my role is to translate that into an unforgettable celebration.

Cape Town is such a rich canvas for this. Between its vineyards, beaches, mountains, and historic estates, the city provides the perfect backdrop for creativity. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of designing weddings that were not only beautiful, but also deeply personal, playful, and sometimes wonderfully unexpected.

Here are some of the most unique wedding themes I’ve brought to life—and how we made them truly special.

A 1920s Gatsby Extravaganza

One of my couples wanted to transport their guests into the roaring twenties—a time of jazz, glamour, and opulence. The challenge? Making it feel authentic without slipping into costume-party territory.

We went all in on elegance: chandeliers dripping in crystals, a champagne tower that sparkled under soft golden light, and live jazz that carried through the night. The décor was rich and bold—deep velvets, feathers, and gold accents everywhere. Guests told us it felt like stepping onto a Hollywood movie set.

My favorite detail? A balloon installation of over 47,000 biodegradable balloons that took 72 hours to construct. It created a ceiling of playful luxury, described by one guest as “heaven’s sweet shop.” That wedding proved that themed celebrations can still be sophisticated and chic.

Flying Proteas

Jolani and Deon’s love for proteas became the heartbeat of their wedding design. Proteas are bold, iconic South African flowers—but when I looked at their pointed leaves, they reminded me of feathers. That single detail sparked an idea: flying King Proteas.

We designed dramatic floral installations where proteas seemed to float mid-air, surrounded by soft spring blossoms and delicate white ranunculus for contrast. The result was dreamy, fresh, and uniquely South African.

For me, the joy was in taking something traditional—the national flower—and reimagining it in a whimsical, fashion-forward way. Guests were mesmerized, and it remains one of my favorite floral concepts to date.

A Runway-Worthy Wedding

Sylvester and Tumelo approached me with a thrilling challenge: create a wedding that was glamorous, fashion-forward, and runway-worthy—but also masculine and sleek.

We stripped away anything expected or overly romantic and instead leaned into bold design choices: strong architectural lines in the floral work, a monochromatic color palette, and tailored, minimal details. Every moment was curated for maximum impact—from the striking invitations to the dramatic reveal of the venue itself.

Because the couple are media moguls, secrecy was key. We sent gold-foiled location cards to each guest only a few hours before the event. The surprise created a sense of exclusivity and high-fashion drama—exactly what the couple envisioned.

A Love Letter to Space and Chanel

Margot and Frank’s wedding was a beautiful fusion of their passions: her timeless, Chanel-inspired elegance and his love for space (he happens to own one of the largest Star Trek collections in Holland!).

The design married these worlds seamlessly: mirrored tablescapes reflected avant-garde floral installations, evoking the cosmos, while sleek black-and-white accents channeled Coco Chanel’s classic aesthetic.

To honor their Dutch and South African roots, we also incorporated modern Delft ceramics, framing their ceremony with storytelling tiles. My favorite touch? Hand-painted plates by a local artist, each one unique and used as both a place setting and a wedding favor. Guests loved taking home a piece of the day.

Old English Meets Middle Eastern Magic

Olivia and Cavan wanted their wedding to merge Old English elegance with Middle Eastern flair, while also honoring their South African ceramic heritage. It was a creative challenge I adored.

We wove ceramic artistry into every detail: delicate centerpieces, a custom arch, and even a breathtaking acoustic installation. Ceramic bowls floated on pools of water, chiming softly whenever they touched. Guests described the sound as otherworldly—it added an ethereal atmosphere that no one will ever forget.

This wedding showed how design can move beyond the visual into the sensory, creating an experience that lingers in memory.

Your Theme, Your Story

The most unique weddings are the ones that feel personal. If your guests leave saying, “That was so you,” then we’ve succeeded.

So, whether your vision is a glamorous 1920s soirée, a protea-filled garden, or something no one’s ever seen before, my role is to dream with you—and then bring that dream to life in ways that surprise and delight.

Because at the end of the day, the most memorable weddings aren’t just planned. They’re crafted stories.
